Sony FS700 Shoulder mount camera rig. ** Click here for an updated version of this post ** Anyone who has ever used the FS700 would know that it’s not exactly blessed with great ergonomics out of the box, some people do like the way it’s designed but unfortunately, i’m not one of them. After only a few days shooting with this camera i couldn’t wait to find a way to use this camera in a way i’m a bit more used to and that’s shoulder mounted or semi-shoulder mounted. Shooting an interview handheld for 5-10 minutes really tested my ability to keep the camera...

Global Employee Profile Films   Production Company:   Lonely Leap Films My Role:                           Editor – final Cut Pro 7.   I was asked by Lonely Leap Films to cut together a total of 6 short 2-3 minute films for a major global law firm. The purpose was to outline the day to day lives of lawyers at various stages of their career in different parts of the world including Sydney, London, Paris, Dubai and Hong Kong. Possible new sony camera on it’s way…     The above picture advertisement has recently shown up on sony’s UK website suggesting that a new sony camera announcement is coming on the 30th October. Personally i am hoping that along with this new camera announcement, the RAW upgrade for the FS700 will be released. 🙂   “TheNewF” could be a new successor to the wonderful F3 super 35mm camera released a couple of years ago. The specs are obviously hush hush at the...

The Alphatron EVF – great retina display viewfinder from TV Logic.     I am currently in my hotel room in Kuala Lumpur failing miserably to beat jet lag from my flight from London yesterday. So I thought i’d write down some initial thoughts I had from using the Alphatron EVF for the first time on a shoot last week. It beats staring at the fan on the ceiling anyway!   I have been wanting to test out this EVF for a while now since it was announced back in NAB 2012, the specs really stood out and as I am looking to get an extra monitor for my FS700 soon and I was...

After many hours of research, reading reviews and trying to get my hands on as many of the hundreds of cameras currently on the market, i have finally settled on my cameras of choice for the next couple of years at leased.   Sony PMW-200   First up is the newly released (September 2012) Sony PMW-200. This camera is a very welcome and long awaited addition to the XDCAM family of Sony cameras. Building on the success of the very popular Sony EX1R, the PMW-200 features a very similar body size, shape and weight. The lens is the same as the Ex1r as far as i can tell which will come in...
